Veroli is an Ernici town with city walls built in Cyclopean style over the original “civitas erecta” natural fortification where the church of St. Leucio stands. In the historical centre, it is still possible to see the ancient Roman walls supporting the large terrace, the “Forum Verolanum”, which is today occupied by the Town Hall.
A short distance away, the Basilica dedicated to St. Maria Salome, the town's patron saint and witness of the martyrdom of Christ, is famous for its Holy Stairway similar to the better known ones in Jerusalem and in the Church of St. Giovanni in Laterano in Rome.
In the courtyard of the medieval residence of the Royal Family is the 1st Century “Fasti Verulani”, an unique example of a Roman calendar on stone, recording holidays, festivities and markets.
